ECLASS and UniversalTypes become compatible

The cooperation with ProMaterial rounds off the further development of the content of the ECLASS standard for the area of BIM and structural engineering.

André Lindner of ECLASS puts it this way: "The cooperation agreement between ECLASS and ProMaterial, an important player in the BIM environment, is an important step for the further development of the content of the subject area 22 'structural engineering'."

Under the leadership of buildingSMART International (bSI), ProMaterial is developing "UniversalTypes", a manufacturer-neutral description format for the properties of building products, together with the industry. UniversalTypes is and will be introduced by bSI in 25 national organizations, supported by many other software partners. The main goals of the cooperation between ProMaterial and ECLASS are harmonization and the creation of a mapping between ECLASS and UniversalTypes. In particular, ECLASS will adopt properties from the preliminary work of UniversalTypes. The collaboration will start with a PoC to begin in the drywall and glass product areas.

This new cooperation completes the currently successfully initiated content-related activities for the further development of ECLASS in structural engineering. For ECLASS Release 14.0, input from UniversalTypes, buildingSMART (DE), Freeclass, SCHLEITH, STRABAG and others will be processed in several working groups to add a lot of new and improved content to the standard, ensuring good usability of ECLASS in BIM.
